so are they just buying old specialized stock or have they bought the factory in taiwan? If so which are the other bikes in the range?

IMO, the only thing that looks similar is that the downtubes are swoopy, like loads of other bikes are

Not the same, in many ways (really obvious one is the rocker, but the shock mounts are different, chainstay is different, union of the tubes at the headtube is different). Geometry I'm not going to look up, but at a glance doesn't look pitchy.
Vitus cyclocross frames were the bee's knees in the mid 80s.
Not sure what they're like now though.
