Hi looking for feedback on the older heckler, not the redesigned ones, long story but trying to convince a friend of my SO that she does not need a *big bouncy* bike ie something with 6/7/8 inch of travel. The santa cruz heckler seems to fit the bill but wanted to ask riders view and
How much does your bike weigh? apparently 32 lbs seems to be the average/norm.
Will 150 mm forks be okay?
What size are people riding? She is 5ft 7 and 9 stone so thinking medium?
Any diffences in the frames over the years?
Can they climb okay?are the a all rounder or more downhilly?

Cheers

oh pics would be good

Most versatile of all my bikes, does most things reasonably well. I have lyriks on mine, rarely need to use 160mm though.

Climbs reasonably well.

Mine is 14.1kg with lyriks, thomson, xtr, xo, carbon bars, ti bits and fat tyres.

Earlier frames were made in the USA.

Had fox 36's on mine, loved it, went like the clappers downhill and I could get it up them as well.... Handled very well and I found the head angle bang on. Mine was a bit heavy due to downhill wheels and a 5th element coil, around 36lb. But I also had it under / around 31lb at one point. Lovely bike.... in these days of tube bendyness it looks proper functional and all the better for it. I'm 6.1 and I had a large, they come up quite smallish imo. Cant find a pic at the mo....

Nice, but sizing of the new ones is a bit odd IMHO. I loved my '04 model (5'10"/medium). replaced it with a medium '07 model which felt (and was) smaller.

Now changed to med Orange 5 which works better for me. Longer top tube and for some reason the suspension seems to be more compliant.

Love mine to bits. Been riding it with Marzocchi Am2 130mm forks, which have been great for just about everything. ETA lock-down gives a great climbing position and 130mm travel has been enough for everthing except full-on DH days out here in the Alps. I've just put Lyriks on, but I'm planning on running them at 130-140mm most of the time, only breaking out the 160mm for chairlift-assisted DH days.

5'11" and riding a large frame if that matters (with 50mm stem and in-line post).

Mine was the same weight as Stuarts before the Lyriks and the 2.5" High-Rollers!
