Hello everyone, I'm looking at a relatively good deal on a 2023 Genesis Vagabond (slightly shorter geometry than the current model) and seem to be top end Medium/bottom end Large in terms of frame sizing. I'm 176cm tall with an inseam of roughly 80cm. I currently ride a 2013 Croix de Fer which is 54.
Does anyone have any experience of sizing that model Vagabond? I'd be very grateful for any input, thank you.
Not that model - mine is older being I think 2020. I'm 182cm/6' and 83cm/33" inseam.
Nice bikes for doing all sorts. Mine is 2x10 and apart from occasional tyre swap, I just ride it.
Thanks Matt. What size is yours?
I'm 5ft11.5 and had a large when they first came out, with a normal 110mm stem on it I'd say it was almost borderline long so unless the geometry has changed radically you'd be fine on a medium?

That's really useful, thank you. I was worried I'd order the Medium and wish I'd gone up to a Large. The ETT of a Medium is longer than the Croix de Fer I have, but the reach shorter because of the higher front end.
I was on the medium of the previous model - 179cm tall and normally proportioned. It was fine.
I miss the Vagabond and am close to buying something similar, maybe a Kona Sutra Ltd. I don't miss the odd component choices that mine originally came with - a weirdy chainset, cable brakes, etc.

I guess that depends in parts on how you set your bikes up. If you just took the measurements off another bike you'd get the same reach, just with less spacers on the tall head tube.
My tendancy with bikes is to initially assume the designer was competent, stick 15mm of spacers under the stem and see how it rides. If they've done a good job it should work for the bikes intended purpose. The Vagabond isn't a racey bike, so it's probably intended that the bars should be higher up but a shorter reach.
There was that trend a few years ago to measure bikes from BB to grips on the basis that it's the measures the two contact points that matter most and would be relatively constant whether it's an XC bike or a downhill bike, you just change the angle. I think if anything it's more applicable to drop bar bikes as a nominal 56cm bike can be anywhere from a 58cm top tube and 54cm seat tube on a race bike, to a 54cm top tube and a 60cm seat tube (equivalent based on the head tube length, it'll probably slope down to ~52). The net result though is that the bar to BB distance probably stays constant.
I agree with TINAS - on paper it's a longer bike, in reality with my stem and spacers set to 'touring' means it's pretty upright and feels a shorter reach. It works well because it's not a bike I am hanging on the wheel of a fast peloton - it's one I sit up on and enjoy the view.
Thanks so much for the input everyone. I really appreciate it. Consensus seems to be that Medium is the way to go from my height. I’m not sure what length the stock stem is, but I’ve enough knocking around the shed to be able to adjust the fit a bit if necessary!
Thanks again. It’s helped a lot 😊
Pics when it arrives...
