Are SRAM 30mm axle cranksets compatible with RaceFace Cinch 30mm external bottom brackets?
Why? Just curious really. I have spare Cinch 30mm BBs and inevitably the Next SLs will explode again at some point and now RF have nulled the LifeTime warranty on Carbon cranks they'll probably not get repaired/replaced again so I'll be less inclined to spend my pennies on RF bits again. I get rather good life out of the Cinch BBs (2+ years), have the tools and instead of taking a perfectly fine BB off was wondering if I had another option in buying some SRAM 30mm cranks to slot in instead when the time comes.
I've never used a SRAM drive train before. I believe the SRAM GPX External 24mm BBs have one side slightly smaller than the other? Is that right? I was wondering if they'd done the same thing with their 30mm cranks/bbs or were they fully compatible with all the 30mm BBs out there?
Obviously I'd need an xD driver on the rear Hub but that's fine.
Thanks.
BB30 is too narrow for external BBs.
Rotor do some cranks that'd work as do Hope, but I'd sell the Nexts and BBs whilst they're good and go XTR.
Firstly, check the length of the SRAM spindle vs RF as they do vary. The crank spindle will fit through the middle of the bearings, but the SRAM crank has no means of adjusting bearing play/axis load so you may have to play with BB spacers / shims / wavey washers to get it right.
Thanks for the reply.
So the physical axle length of a SRAM BB30 crank isn't long enough to fit through the external 73mm BB cups and tighten up then preload?
That's a good enough answer for me to be fair and I guess why SRAM don't do external 30mm BBs for their cranks.
I was aware the Hope cranks would work. I don't really want a whole new pile of tools but it's always an option.
So for a SRAM Eagle (say) crank with External BB it'd have to be the GPX BB 24mm version of the crank and bb.
I'm hoping Shimano might come out with a DM ring crank that would be boost and non boost using offset chain rings but they sell whole cranks for each so no way to take them from current bike to next one. I currently use Shimano SLX 3x cranks setup 1x as spares when something goes wrong with the RaceFace. It's so easy to fit and remove a Shimano crank. They were dirt cheap and will be sold with the bike eventually.
Thanks anyway. Question answered.
