I was quite keen to get a Scandal 26er to,build up using the existing Rebas and XT bits off of my Giant XTC.(XTC is a tad too short and would like something a little less harsh.)

However,On One are now only stocking the slot drop out version. Is wheel changing a faff, with slot drop outs, and are there any other issues using gears on a slot drop out frame or is it fairly easy to live with?

........................or should I buy a Kinesis XC Pro 2 frame instead?

it's not the easiest - it's not the worst.

It makes it more difficult if you run a chaintug, i did this to get optimum tyre placement between the stays, obviously less of an issue if you run narrow tyres.

I have a geared slot dropout inbred. I don't really find it a problem. Like thomthumb says, if you are happy to run the wheel right at the back of the drop-out you can get rid of chain tugs. You really only need one but I run two - saves faffing about lining the rotor up.
