Does it matter if I use my reverb halfway on full extend rather than let it extend all the way to the top, so basically what im doing is pressing the button until it goes as high as I want it and sitting on it at that rather than let it go right to the top?

Im only doing this whilst I do a big XC ride

Yup, in fact RS produced the 'Reverb enduro collar' to help you with that.
If you use it in reverse it'll do what you want- unless the Reverb is already fully in the frame and can't lower it anymore..

So its too long for your frame ? They do make shorter ones, also I think TF can do a reduction in travel for you.
