Just got some bearings for a shimano Deore HT11 BB as described in a previous listing. The bearings are 6805-2rs type (25x37x7). After taking the old ones out as there rusted to f and replaced with the above items. The replacements are about a 1mm deeper and the centre is slightly smaller so the plastic cover doesn't go on. Anyone tried ths and had same problems as going to Ruthin sunday. Will it be best to buy a new BB, don't want to!!
Please help.

Thanks

i've done the same and in the end thought i'd just give it a go and smash on the cap and chuck the cranks on my hack bike.
theres a good gap where the cap is but they spin just fine. been on a few wet rides and nothing interesting to report, done a several hundred miles all ok.
HTII BB has no resistance to water anyway imo so dont worry about it.
you ever seen a superstar BB cap? its certainly not a seal just a cap..

Edit: this may help:

As a bodge any chance that the bearing will fit the spindle without the plastic top hat ?

Tried without the top cap but there is a bit of play, this i thought was worse than just smashing the top caps on. Seem to spin ok like the other guy said but don't want to knacker crank spline or something.

Thanks

if i recall on mine the cap went on in the center but wouldnt push all the way down so left a good 1mm gap between the cap and the bearing, i remember i broke a bit off and cracked it too, i dont think i would use it with play and no plastic cap though for the reason you mention

all Ive read on here and elsewhere suggests that the older HT2 hubs used 1mm smaller bearings than current ones so 6805 dont fit into older HT2 cups. You need the top hat seal to fill the gap between the axle and the bearing inner race as well as the outer "shim" effect.

Someone on here is selling enduro bearings which dispense with the top hat seal and use bearings that run directly into the axle-dont know if they fit older ones?
