[Closed] Upgrading power meter from a Stages - what's next?

[#7710551]

I've decided to bite the bullet and change my cranks for the proper length having found out a year ago at a bike fit that mine were too long and thus causing me issues.

So, the Stages has to go.

BB type, Im open minded. Road, compact 50/34. Weight is a concern, as light as possible is key on this bike.

I'd like to have a twin-sided power meter this time round as I'm a data geek and well, I just want it. Not interested in spending £2000 on an SRM or the ilk though, I'd like to fund the new one by selling my old crank and stages + a bit of extra cash, so max budget around £700 ish

Can anyone offer any real world opinions on what's out there?

Cheers

No first hand experience (I've got P1s), but for your spec I'd go Power2Max. Rotor INpower is the other obvious one.

Dual sided or Dual sided?

Either way a total power PM (eg SRM/ P2M) or a proper dual sided PM and as light as possible don't really go together. Maybe Pioneer but then the budget is a touch off

Sounds like a P2M fits the bill (especially when considering the budget) and the people I know with them have nothing but positive words to say. Everything else out there has its own small quirks but I haven't been able to find any common faults or frustrations with P2M when looking in to this with a similar criteria and Stages already on the MTB.

Maybe you are more in to the more *proper* dual sided options and Garmin Pedalling Dynamics level of data but I don't know anyone with dual Garmins who knows what to actually do with the data it spits out 🙂

It will be interesting to hear other's thoughts.

Save a little more and get the p1s, if you are a wiggle platinum customer you can get 12% off

Not light. Which is seemingly a key factor. Impressed with mine so far though, can't say the weight bothers me, and I care about such things!

Any votes for the Vector 2? Seems like an easy solution crank wise, and weight's Ok too...

I know not strictly £700, but there are a few deals around.

If you can stretch your budget a bit, it is worth taking a look at infocranks. I think British cycling are doing 20% off for members at the moment

Still over £1000 though, or are there better deals to be had?

No problems with my Vectors so I'd give them a vote. Like my Power2Max on Rotor cranks too.

Have you had a look at the Quarq ones? The Elsa or Red might fit the bill and are sort of within budget.
