I'm thinking about getting my new bike insured but not sure if it's worth it? Do you guys think it's worth it? If so would you recommend any companies?
Cheers
Worth it if you don't have home insurance to cover it, IMO. Make sure your lock is on the insurer's approved list.
Depends on the value of your bike(s), where you keep it and the level of cover included in your existing home and contents insurance. It used to be that bicycles would only be covered up to a low value – often £1,000 – and only if locked within the property (including your shed).
These days, some insurers have cottoned on that there's loads of expensive carbon fibre beauties knocking about and they have raised the maximum value and even started to cover bikes locked outside the property, for racing etc. Check with your insurance company.
There are also specialists who cover your bike and issue a separate policy that covers your bike for just about anything, anywhere. But when I investigated them, they seemed eye-wateringly expensive.
I ended up going for an insurer who covers your bike (very extensively, home and abroad) as part of your home and contents cover. Worked out pretty good value, all things considered.
