Upgraded wheels / tires - or have I?
I’ve a 2016 Orange Four that came with Alex Volar 2.5 and Maxxis Minion DHF 3C Exo TR/High Roller II Exo TR.
Since then I’ve swapped them out to -
Stans Crest rims and DT spokes and
Specialized Ground Control 2.3
Keeping the Hope Pro 4 hubs.
Now most / all my riding is on the South Downs Way and I wonder if my previous Minion and High Roller were better suited to the job?
I don’t know if it’s in my head but I ‘maybe’ felt more confident going down hill before the tyre change? Can’t say I’ve noticed any improvement going up hill either?
Which tires are better suited to my needs? Or is it one set for winter and one for summer?
I’d value your thoughts.
well youve stuck considerably lighter and a bit narrower rims on.
IME you do notice the benefit of a lighter wheel on long days and.
lighter and also stiffer wheels accelerate better, which may be down to the rim/ build
minion high roller combo are the nuts to be fair, but a bit draggy
never ridden ground control so cant compare, both overkill for SDW imho, but Im not sure there will be much benefit over the maxxis?
