looking to use up some spares and have a "plain" chainring that I'd like to use in a double setup

I'm sure the 1st hundred thousand years or so of mtb history didn't involve ramps, pins, cutouts etc but just wanting to know - will it be shit ?

TIA

No it's not crap - in fact it's usually fine if you shift 'properly' by taking the pressure off the pedals. Where you'll really notice it is on those unplanned/poorly executed last second shifts that you do while pedalling hard.

i put a proper 36t on a double setup ages ago, seems to wear much better than the 'slick shifting' stuff.

It will be fine, if you really dont like it and struggle to shift to it then buy a techno one, but for now use up those spare parts.

Agreed with above . It works fine, the ramped stuff is a bit smoother and good for racer's suferfast shifting. If you apply steady pressure and are not "brutish" about shifting non ramped stuff makes little difference.
