anyone had this? Cable snapped at shifter end, leaving a bit of cable and the bullet bit in there
I can't get at it 'cos the shifter will only shift 3 clicks either way - I think the broken off cable end in jamming the barrel so I can't get it to shift to small ring position to get at the broken stub to push it out..........
If that makes sense, it has probably happened to you!
any smart ideas? I started taking the shifter apart but got as far as i was willing to go before ratchets and things started pinging over the kitchen floor
I have succesfully dismantled and rebuilt a LX shifter in the past for this reason.
Its a pain in the doodahs but its still working on my bros P7.
Tap it against the kitchen tops, shake it, swear at it. You've done all that? Find an old chap who's been racing for yonks and they tend to be able to help (I knew such a man here in Ireland).
They are a PITA to cable so I am not surprised you can't get it out. Have you tried putting a soldered bit of spare cable down the hole to push it out?
^^^ +1
Eventually killed a Dura Ace STI of mine ๐
Thought I got all the bits out, with much shaking, tapping and what not, it worked for another couple of years and then seized solid - which I'm guessing was related. They really aren't designed to come apart!
Happened to me too, luckily I could see enough to pull the remnants straight with small clamping tweezers while clicking it round.
Tried to take an STI apart which had stopped working to see if I could fix/bodge it. All I can say is good luck if you have to dismantle - they appear to be like swiss watches inside: all tiny springs, bolts, infitessimal bits and japanese jizzum. Impossible to work on. Meanwhile MTB shifters are pretty easy to work on.

I misread the "work" bit first time round..........!
