Fixing another puncture on my rear tyre noticed that my continental 4000 GPS had several small tears slits and holes plus a distinct flat on the bottom of the tyre. I have had three rear punctures in the last seven or eight rides.

I have a 80 mile sportive and faced with a trip to halfords to buy a tyre I don't really want or hope it lasts for the sportive!

So any recommendations for a new tyre?
Should I change both front and back together, they were originally changed as a pair? The front is not as bad as the rear.

No LBS's near by? If not Halfords do Conti tyres so you'll get something close.

I'd just replace the back myself but I might swap them so you have the better/newer tyre on the front.

A perished outer rubber layer doesn't mean that the fibres that give the casing its strength have failed.

True BIgJohn but one split although small is all the way through...could risk it tomorrow and may get one puncture as rubber is thin or hastily buy new rubber for a tyre I don't really want, that is the choice I guess

£39 is not cheap for Pro 4's but it is about retail price I think, they are good tyres though, very good.. Got a Decathon close by? They had Pro 3's cheap when I went in so could be worth looking at.

I bought pro 4 endurance in the end and with some SIS go powder and a bottle cage came to £100!

The pro 4s were £40 each and I decided to buy 2 in the end
