Evening all,
I've got a problem with my AC race tubeless wheels, namely none of my tyres will fit.
My Maxxis LUST Advantages and Crossmarks won't pop onto the rim as they are UST beaded, nor will my tubeless ready Schwalbe RR's.
So, what fast rolling and reasonably light (but not tear or puncture-tastic) tyres are people using on these rims?
I have fitted loads of Ralph's to AC wheels, a great combo
Are you using a compressor?
Are you lubing up the rim and tyre wall with very soapy water?
I ran Ralphs last year OK on mine, and this year I've got Geax Aka's, again running fine
Have run normal, folding Nobby Nics, Rons and Ralphs on mine without issue..
Mine happily run Nics, Ralphs, Crossmarks & Mud X with no fuss.
You didn't read the instructions did you:
[i]IMPORTANT: When running any model of AC MTB Tubeless wheels tubeless, we recommend tubeless ready or standard clincher MTB tires.
Do NOT use UST tires on the MTB Race wheels. UST tires can be difficult to mount on all other MTB Tubeless wheels and will require extra
soaping of the tire and rim, see Step 3. Again, do NOT use UST tires on the MTB Race wheels. [/i]

I've know my UST tyres won't work (I read those instructions earlier today Stan 😉 )but so few decent tyres are not UST beaded. Bonty 'tubeless ready' look hopeful (my mudx's do fit)and possibly Specialised 2-bliss? Need to go feel up some rubber at the bike shop ASAP.
Which exact versions of Schwalbe tyres are people using? 50psi for an hour isn't popping tyres on with a years worth of fairy liquid smeared around, so a different approach is needed.

Tubeless ready Schwalbes aren't UST-beaded. That said, some of them are pretty dang tight so could have the same effect, they went a bit mad the year they went all tubeless ready.
Specialized TLR (2bliss) is very good IME- basically normal tyres that happen to work well tubeless. Their range isn't perfect but they've got tyres for most jobs. Thinking Captains, maybe? Or Fast Traks but they're not as all-round useful as a RR
The beads on the RR's do seem chunkier than normal tyres, I've found some old Maxxis exception tyres (made of very thin condoms I think), I'll try them for now and report back. I like the 2bliss tyres I've used before, I might go for some silly summery tyres and provoke some more wet weather...
Beginning to wonder how much I'll get for these wheels secondhand...
The Maxxis exception tyres were a mixed result, one straight on and hooked up, the other would only get 3/4 of the way there, some of the bead never made it. These are the flimsiest 'normal' tyres I've got, and loose enough that one of them fell off the rim at last years SITS and still the success rate is only 50% 🙁
AC aren't being any too quick to recommend a tyre that will fit, so I think I'll take my chances with some Bonty XR1 Team Issue TLR's as I quite enjoy slipping and sliding everywhere 🙂
I've got an Ardent (normal single ply) on the front & tubeless ready nobby nic 2.25 evo pacestar on the back, the Ardent needed 'beading' a bit, but both went on the very little fuss.
Another vote for the Spesh 2bliss, I use the Ground Control and Purgatory on the 29er American Classic tubeless rims and they are fine, can't remember if I Had any probs fitting but I do have a compressor.
Bit fine in the tread department, although a Purg on the back is mostly ok if you dont mind some foowork (walking) so, for real peanut butter South Downs mud they do fail.
I'm looking at some rather attractive Beavers (fnaar, fnaar).
I've never had a issue with any of my tyres on American classic rims.
mostly Schwalbe, Bontrager team issues and maxxis.
even maxxis 330gram flyweights inflated and sealed 1st time.
The AC tubeless and the AC race have different rim widths , the race although lighter have a wider rim which is an absolute pain to get tyres up tubeless on , the regular AC tubeless rims are a piece of cake . There we've done this on 2 different forums now .
I was talking about the race rims.
I think you guys need to look at technique or go back to tubes.
Mine are the race rims too. Anyone in the Nottingham area wants a hand then give me a shout.

I've just stuck some Bonty Mud X's tubeless on my AC's (XC - not Race). Total time including removal of the prior tyres and tubes - 23 mins.
I was quite impressed that the Mud X's inflated to 30psi first time pre shakey shakey - ie with the Stans in the bottom of the tire and not circulated yet.
