Tyre inserts, blime...

Tyre inserts, blimey, they’ve gone pricey.

I’ve just cobbled together a new rear wheel and thought about sticking an insert in, with a new Rock Razor, for a bit of security. Coincidently, (or was it, Facebook probably monitoring me) I got a post of FB from Whyte bikes for the Panzer insert, special offer. Was £55, now £38.50. Must be for a pair, I assumed. No, that’s for one, no valves, just a foam hoop…..£55.

Rimpact was the one I had my eye on a little while ago but these seem to have jumped up quite a bit, I’m sure they used to be £35 a pair. £53 a pair now.

Any other options out there that aren’t so extravagant?

I've been happy with Nukeproof ARD inserts so far. They're often on sale for £35ish for a pair and come with valves.

Dont know when you last looked but i paid about £50 for a pair of rimpacts a while ago, maybe january ish time, so they havent increased at all.

Dont forget that along with everything else their costs will be rising to make the products so id expect a bit of an increase.

If you think they are simply just a foam hoop then why not do a DIY version out of a swimming pool noodle or plumbing insulation foam, loads of videos online about how to do it.

Just put some rimpacts in last night after talking to the guys at ard rock, not ridden them yet, following with interest.

Taken off the supergravities and put the exo+inserts on.
Bike was noticably lighter just to put back into the shed.
pretty sure I will never get supergravity+insert to work based on how my thumbs feel this morning

rimpact have gone up a little, doesnt help the glue supplier they use to bond the two foam layers on the pro model came from ukraine.

originals £52.99 incl shorter valves,

ps. remember you need the newer style valves as regular valves holes dont work, the air needs to go sideways otherwise the foam blocks the valve hole off.

in terms of ardrock 4 riders over 2 years using rimpact with regular exo tyres. no punctures.
even my gravel bike runs on them. just feel better.

even lidl's jam preserve which has been 79p-89p for at 3-4 years has nearly doubled, i got one last week £1.59 :0(

just a foam hoop

That's not correct. It's a fancy foam hoop.

Some of these materials that have specific characteristics are quite specialised.

I have experience of using 'just a foam hoop' when DIY inserts were a thing. I can assure you that Rimpacts are rather different.
