I've got some Mountain King 2.1s on my Merlin hardtail, and the geometry of the chain stays put the tyre within 5 mm of the non drive side, but more than double that on the drive side. Is 5mm enough to cope with wheel flex? I've checked the wheels in my jig and they run true, but should I move the rim across a few mm to run more centrally between chain stays?

I'd say 5mm is fine unless mud sticks to the tyre

Weird thats its central but I'm not going to pretend I know how to solve that

Have you checked the wheel with a dishing tool. The rim should be central between the dropouts

5mm is fine in the dry but i'd want more in the mud. both my bikes have the paint missing where mud has scraped the finish away.

get a second opinion on the wheel, another jig or dishing tool. then redish, or re align the frame.
