MegaSack DRAW - 6pm Christmas Eve - LIVE on our YouTube Channel
Coming from ireland and Heading to Wales for 2 days in May
Marin trail and Coed-y-Brenin(the beast)
Was going to go with Highroller II 2.4 60a front and Aspen 2.25 rear
Any suggestions would be appreciated from the locals
Cheers
I'd go dual ply on the rear to compensate for a lack of finese
Rubber Queen black chilli 2.2
Miss out the fire road loop just after the half way house on the Beast, its pointless. Carry on up the very steep road and take the 2nd road on the right after the right turn for the fire road (so 3rd right) Go round the gate and the start of the descent is 100-200yds up the road on the right.
+1 for rubber queens.
Cheers for the info guys need to look at rubber queens then.
Marin & CYB are both hardpack trail centres, no need for anything particularly grippy.
Maxxis Ardent,
Trailraker
Smoke & Dart.
Are all you need.
2.25" Crossmark on the back and a 2.2" Rubber Queen up front. My current preferred setup and seems to work very well in most conditions.

+1 And there use to be an informal cafe just before the 'very steep road', so remember change.
Something with plenty of volume, Ardent maybe.
Would an advantage on the front and an aspen on the rear cope with everything
I've always used high roller rear 60a with a super tacky minion front
The super tacky is amazing if it's wet. And you off to Wales
I would go with what ever you have on the bike already.
Lots of my friend use High Rollers and ride all the trails in North Wales regularly and swear by them, I was going to buy a High Roller for my front but opted instead for a Mountain King ll black Chilli tubeless, it has given me loads more grip & confidence and I don;t wash out unlike the previous incarnation of the Mountain King.
Advantage always seems like a back tyre to me, tried one up front once & in the mud it was lethal.
Now severely confused but didn't want to spend more money 🙁

You're going to be riding very well groomed trail centres for 2 days...
Ride the tyres you've got already and save the cash... Unless your tyres are as good as useless now (in which case follow some of the relatively useful advice above, nobody has suggested any particularly bad tyres), but for the places you're going to be riding, tyre choice really isn't critical.
Cheers mboy coming over from Ireland it is a bit of the unknown what to expect so will run with whats on the bike
Highroller II on the front
Aspen or Advantage on the rear
Something not too draggy- no lack of grip at those places but the Beast is reasonably hard work (fantastic, though).
I think I used my standard nevegal/eskar combo, since it works for absolutely everything and I own loads of nevegals and eskars. But anything'll do the job. It's 2012, most tyres are brilliant!
