Hi, doing a bit of work the now researching into the human interface used on a turbo trainer. Looking to know what people like and dislike about the controls of the turbo trainers you have used.
Thanks David
need to have a very simple way of changing slope/brake. one 'click' would be good rather than a 'set - up/up/up/ - set' thingummy for instance.
multiple rows of data good, shouldn't have to cycle through too many times to get to the dataset you want to read.
Quick 'reset' eg if you're doing a warmup then a timed effort, don't want to have to sit there between pieces for 5-10 secs clicking buttons and waiting for everything to reset.
Dont have any controls at all on my turbo.
Cycleops Magneto, has progressive resistance as you cycle so no fiddling about with adjusters, get on an ride, which reminds me, need to advertise the thing now since its no longer needed.
I have a Minoura Hypermag 1200
I took off the only control, the resistance lever & just simply change gears as normal for different resistance
The main human interface on my turbo is the saddle. And it hurts!
Otherwise I just have a cable operated resistance changer on an old Tacx jobbie. I use an old fixed gear bike on the turbo but only ever use the easiest setting (happy spinning resistance) or the hardest (unhappy spinning resistance, for intervals etc). That's all I need.
I have a fluid one with a lever, but it just stays on the floor and is always set to the hardest resistance. That is why I have gears on the bike.
I think the only value in having adjustable resistance is if there is some sort of computrainer type thing attached to simulate a specific course or something clever like that otherwise I don't see the point at all.
