So you have probably read in previous threads that im off the bike for 6-8 weeks but i really need to drop some weight and get fit.

Im eating really healthy but miss the excersise so i thought i might venture into the world of Turbo Trainers.

How much should/could i be looking at to spend because my budget is not massive.

Are the useful for training and getting fit or should i just buy a standard execise bike?

If it is only for 6-8 weeks ho does the cost compare to spin classes? I do both but spin has more of a drive to do constant hard work and the views can be better.

+1 for spinning here. Got to be way too motivated to get a decent turbo work out, I find a bossy spin instructor & lycra clad females much more motivating. Turbo training also really annoying for other occupants of the house as well.

By the time a decent quality turbo has been bought, that would be minimum 3 months gym/spin membership, although you might have to sign up for 6 months I'd be pretty sure you'd carry on with spin classes alongside riding.

problem is its my upper body where the surgery was so its more a case of just sitting upright on a turbo trainer going at my own pace.

Can't stand and grip the handlebars like i used to in my spinning class.

I guess i will just buy a cheap excersise bike, think asda had them for £30.

To be honest i didn't really research enough and didn't expect them to be so expensive.

MoseyMTB, I've been using my turbo as I've busted my wrist so can't go offroad at the moment. Also can't put any pressure on it.

I put some Tri bars on the bike so I could put the weight on my forearms.

I've found just having it set up in the dining room has meant I can grab 30 mins here and there.

I've just got a cheap one like this

It's also really handy for setting bikes up if you don't have a workstand.

Stick a DVD on, I got through Avatar in 3 sessions but it really helps as it's boring. (Avatar & the Turbo)

You might also need a desk fan or something to blow air over you.

I also bought the Sufferfest videos and have found them to be great.

Go through a 45-60 mins session and feel like you've really worked
