WTB do a 45mm tape that would be ideal

Do you want a rim strip (like, teh inner tubey things) or tape? With wider rims, ime it's better to go narrower than full width- seal up all the holes but don't put any on the beads where the tyre goes. That way the tape can't get damaged when you change tyres. Doesn't work if the rim itself isn't airtight mind but most decent ones are

Clear Gorilla tape works a treat and comes supplied the right width. Doesn’t leave sticky residue like the black stuff, isn’t porous like the black stuff and is way lighter.

I would use 45mm rim tape, inner width plus 5mm is a good rule of thumb.

Totally depends on your rims that's why you are getting mixed advice. All my rims have bead lock type shaping in the rim bed and are air tight so I'm with Northwind and want the edges of the tape away from damage from the tyres. if your rims leave the tyre too slack or aren't airtight you'll want the tape to go full width or you may even need rim strips rather than tape

45mm clear gorilla tape works for me. Usual thing of fitting a tyre with tube and inflating after fitting the tape ensures the tape is nicely stuck to the rim.

I did my 40mm rims with 25mm TESA tape, but got away with just taping the spoke holes. As mentioned above that’s preferable for me as if I swap tyres the tape stays in place.
