[Closed] Tubeless thorn hole repair

Had my first road tubeless "ingress" today (must be 3000+ road miles with no issue so was due it) by way of a man-sized thorn which I left in the tyre and rode home.

Just had the tyre off and removed the thorn. What's my next move? The thorn is best part of a millimetre thick so am concerned the sealant won't be a permanent move when I pump it back up again.

Do I use a tyre boot? What's the recommended repair kit? TIA!

Clean the inside, put a tube patch over it, carry on riding.

A regular puncture repair patch? You've done that yourself with road tubeless then?

should have just pulled it out and seen what happened, 1mm hole isn't big

Well, as per my OP I *have* now pulled it out (well, pushed it out from the inside actually). I wasn't about to try and remove it by the roadside when it wasn't losing air and take the chance of not getting home.

I'm sure it would "seal" if I did pump it back up but at road pressures am questioning whether the sealant fix is sufficiently permanent or whether I need to do something more robust.

spin wheel so sealent goes to hole and pump up, dont remove thorn no need to. You can use the repiar kit when u get home. On MTB I dont bother repairing holes, the sealent seals them and thats it.

Note with the repiar kit you use the tool to enlarge the hole. Add glue. Then thread the reapir in and out. You should have 4 bits, tails to cut through.

Havent carried a tube since 2011. Keep sealent toppeed up every 6 months

This works for me, including by the side of the trail

I have repaired lots of holes in MTB tyres with standard puncture repair kit, can get special, slightly heavier duty ones as below. I feel better doing this than leaving it purely to the latex on bigger holes. Can't see why it wouldn't work on road tyres too, just need to clean and dry the tyre well first.
