Has anyone tried going tubeless on a surly tyre. I figure the advantages must be great as the tyre is also great ( as in vast)
What do you use as a rim strip?
How many gallons of sealant?
Did it work?
Can it work?

I wonder if it would work. On low pressures with a tube I can push my tyre bead away from the rim with my thumbs, so I suspect it would be prone to burping as a tubeless.

I suspect it would need rim locks as used on trials motorbikes.

Maybe what is needed is a 4" tubular - anything to lose some weight from the wheels. ๐Ÿ™‚

The weight of the amount of sealant you may need to make it effective may well negate any weight saving elsewhere? I'm not sure how non-porous the tyres are, having seen Coastkid's over a period of time...

Not a fatbike, but I have a massive ghetto tubeless 24"x3" unicycle tyre that works extremely well and installed very easily. It's very thick rubber that helps, and even run very soft indeed it has never burped - you can push the tyre in from the rim and the rim strip just sticks to it.

It does have a lot of sealant in it, 'tis true.
