I've a set of ztr olympic rims and would like to run them tubeless with regular bontrager mud x's in winter and racing ralphs in summer. Reading through the information available I'm thoroughly confused. Do I need the rim strip, spoke tape, valve core, fluid or a combination thereof? And what the hell is burping!?

Or if anyone knows a good guide online that would be great. Any help much appreciated as I'm curious to try life without tubes.

The stans guides are very good, and include videos.

You will probably need spoke tape, a valve, and some latex based sealant.

Burping is where the tyre comes away from the rim and the seal is broken, which means air is lost. Sometimes you may only lose a bit of air, or other times you can lose all the air. It depends how quickly it reseals.

you sure are an idiot but least you acknowledged it!
with tubeless tyres and tubeless rims all you need (if any) is goo to go in them to, this basically keeps a better seal and stops air pissing out the holes in the tyres from sharp rocks aka equivalent of a puncture

you need valves but they should come with tubeless tyres

burping is where the bead of the tyre comes away from the rim and you loose a fair bit of air in a onezie.

wrong - you still need the yellow tape on stans rims to seal the spoke bed

good news is that racing ralphs and mudx both work just fine whether the tyres are tubeless or not.
yellow spoke tape, removable core valves and wheel milk will work just fine.

The only tubeless for dummies that exists is a mavic ust rim plus a ust tyre. Effortless.

Ztrs with a reg tyre are faff city in comparison, particularly if you need to dick around with a compressor. Worth persevering with, though, as the finished articles are great. Once you've done it once it'll be straightforward.

Just set up stans crests with halo choir master ust tyres, really easy to inflate and could probably use them with no sealant but not taking the risk, as my mother said always use protection.

Crests and non ust maxxis went up more easily than mavic ust rims with maxxis ust tyres for me.
