Finally got round to going tubeless on my rear wheel yesterday, and noticed a hole in the rim strip which was preventing the tyre from inflating.
Applied a piece of electrical tape over the hole, inflated and the tyre is fine and holding pressure.
My question though is whether this bodge will still hold after a few rides, or will it all end in tears?
Just one piece of electrical tape? How big was the hole and how much tape did you put on? Just enough to cover it or a decent area around it?
The electrical tape will deform into the hole with the pressure. Whether it lasts depends on how sticky the tape is, how much excess you put around the hole, how big the hole was to start with, how smooth/sharp the hole edges are etc.
I use 3 wraps of electrical tape on my rims and the tape deforms quite a way into the holes in the rim. Has lasted almost a year though.
err just the one bit...but a good covering
