MegaSack DRAW - This year's winner is user - rgwb
We will be in touch
I'm making slow progress on my new build so far:
Superlight Frame, RP23 (Large)
SID Teams (2010)
XTR Cranks and BB
Chris King Headset
RaceFace Deus Flat Bars
XTR Shifters
XTR Rear Mech
XTR Front Mech
Bits I still need and could do with some opinions on:
Seatpost (Thomson?)
Stem (Easton EA90?)
Wheels (XTR Factory?)
Cassette (XT?)
Chain (XTR?)
Brakes (XTR disc?)
Want this bike to be as light as possible, not got megabucks available for wheels though, need to keep around £500 max.
Hoping this to build up to be a 23 pound bike....am I on track?
cassette KCNC
Chain X9 SL
Brakes XT Disk
Stem KCNC
Seatpin - Ritchey WCS or KCNC (if weights more important than strenth that is for KCNC )
wheels - Hope XC SP 3 on stans 355s (should save some of your 500 quid here to get other bits light)
23 might be pushing it although i did have a 25lb 1998 heckler - full XTR with a middleburn duo chainset and hope on 717 wheels - did go >25lbs when i fitted real tires though ! (narrow light muds to small block 8s )
I could sell you a mint unmarked Thomson Stem for £35 posted.
Black, 100 x 5 deg, for standard bars.
I've built up one for a customer with that exact same build (but with rebas) and if memory serves it was about 26lb with pedals (xtr of course). It would be sacrilage not to use a thomson stem though. The eastons are horrible!
26lb wow I wanted it come in less than that 😕
On the SantaCruz site the SPX build is listed at 24.36lb, and that's mainly XT bits...and 22.4lb with XTR / top end bits.....are they using a super small frame to list these weights?!
Why are Easton stems horrible? - I've got one on my superlight and seems to hold my bars on alright. I have a Thomson stem on my singlespeed and it also holds my bars on alright (admittedly the Thomson looks nicer).
By the way I managed to get my large superlight just under 24 pounds but that was with full XTR, Pace forks and DT Swiss XR1540 wheels - not cheap!
