Haha! Post of the day haggis. Chapeau.

I apologise if my comments have upset you, as they clearly have. I have no issue whatsoever with the bikes posted within (a number are very nice), my greatest 'grievance' (for want of a better word) is with your absurd policing of the content.

What exactly have I done that makes me 'jumped up'? - I expressed my opinion in my early posts, which clearly offends, though to be honest you were on the back foot and unnecessarily defensive from the off, as if you expected to counter some resistance (which has not come from me).

If you are going to be so upset when people don't adhere to your rules may I suggest you register CustomBikePhotosAndNaziGovernedForum.com - probably more up your street!

haggis, £2300 for the ti implant frame. £1700 on xt group, decent forks etc easily do-able, I'd have thought. The 853 Team SST is £1100. Add a bit for custom tweaks and you've still got loads of headroom for a sub £4K build.

Right, thank you for the comment of the day remarks. i am a wee bit calmer now 😉 i am not policing the content just wanting to see some nice bikes as suggested in the thread title. more than you njee20 have popped in and said they're ordinary or not bike porn and if you dont like then why are you continuing to write in this thread. its like you are goading me same as the plonker a few comments up who says "these bikes are all minging" so i repeat "jog on!"

Why am I still here? Because there are some interesting bikes in here (although there's hardly any photos on this page now it's descended into bedlam), and like you I'm not particularly interested in Orange 5s/Cotics/On Ones etc - I appreciate nice bikes, mine doesn't really 'fit' with the STW formula.

What I don't get, and I did say as much, is why people swoon over them so much. They're nice bikes, but all they have over mass produced bikes is exclusivity, ie it's brand snobbery. That's fine, just don't pretend it's owt else!

Here's my Dekerf:

[img] [/img]

Not sure how this fits with anyone's idea of bike porn. It's very ordinary to look at, and not that expensive: it's the cheaper Generation, 631, not 853. I bought it second hand, too. (equivalent of finding it in a hegderow and peeling apart the pages?)

And actually, I'm emotionally attached to it more than its ride qualities would justify - there are plenty of better looking bikes out there and plenty more that are nicer to ride, but I love it anyway and I don't want to get rid.

So much more like a long term partner than porn.

My old DeKerf. Truly loved this bike. The frame is hanging in the garage and i should get round to getting disc tabs welded on.

Yep, I'll fess up to brand snobbery, not wanting another "me too" bike.

[img] [/img]

In the end I chose a Hunter cos I'd already met Rick, and wanted to give my money to someone I knew rather than a corporation. That and he could do wishbone stays and Black Cat dropouts instead of an EBB or the fugly Paragon sliders.

And this quality of brazing...

Edited to add: love that DeKerf above

so, I've always wanted an Indy Fab Deluxe, but doubt I'll ever buy one.
where do you get the fakes?

I should have one of my fake Indy Fab's up for sale soon.
Keep an eye on the for sale forum over the next week or so.

It's steel.

The guy that builds them hasn't been able to master faking Ti yet.

Ok so I am curious.... rarely get involved in these threads that turn into a bickering match although 'Hock' makes an interesting point re forum mentality etc

I am one of those main stream guys, I run a Zesty, bought before the hype, but I make it work for me rather than ride it as standard and I have an Evil Sov that I put together for winter riding.

What I have discovered is that I love riding the Sov, in the saddle it is ok but once out of it taking on the trails it is fantastic fun..... this has lead me into thinking about a bike that'll pedal better but be as much fun when attacking the trail.

I am now thinking that maybe a custom geometry HT would be good, possibly in Ti....

My thoughts on the bikes posted... most look pretty uninspiring with the odd exception but the thing that counts is the ride.... it is all about the ride and I am a fan of understatement so whilst they look pretty uninspiring I hope that they ride as thier owners had wished them to when designing/ordering them.

I won't post any pics of my main steamers... mostly as I have no idea how to attach an image.

Riding = Smiling

Most peoples custom rides take elements of 'standard' bikes they really like and recreate them in a posher material with nicer fixtures and fittings.

If you like your hardtail and know what to do to make it ride how you want in that one area without stuffing the rest of it up (or the builder you choose can tell you) then gettign a custom frame made woudl make sense.

Thing is the whole niche hardtail thing is a bit "me too"...just do what you want rather than being influenced by the views of others.

🙁 I am confused now. If I really want a niche hardtail without having been influenced by the views of others... Wait a minute, is this possible? Not being influenced by other views at all? And is it desirable? Or would it be actually quite sad? Oh! Sorry! Where were we? Ah yes, so assuming that I am totally not influenced and still want a niche hardtail but it's - as you say - currently a bit "me too" can I still have one or do I have to wait until it's less "me too"? And should I - for the time being - buy something really ordinary just to be not "me too"? Or is ordinary by definition "me too", too? 😕

Ah never mind 😉 let's have some more of what I'd generously call bike poarn:

[img] [/img]
WTB Phoenix

yes, i understand, looks somewhat ordinary... but... I think it's got perfect proportions! And it "looks" as if it rides great! So I think it's tres jolie, indeed! 🙂

a steel jones made in Taiwan is as common as muck ringo and not even welded by a man with a beard in a shed.

We own the equivalent of a halfords special dear boy. 😀
