[Closed] trp v brakes not releasing enough

when I've finished braking my v brakes dont release properly,

I've checked the calipers and all seems well.

I think the problem might lie in the cable.

I have cx levers too.

anyone any ideas?

I've also put some lube on the cables but it didn't help.

if I move the pivot pin and make the spring rate higher it helps but the front pivot is in the middle hole and works a treat.

remove the cable from the brake arms. now squeeze the arms together. do they move freely? do they stick? try taking arms off the lugs and rub the lugs with a bit of wire wool. there may be a slight bit of surface rust on the lugs.

the actual brakes seem ok, I've whipped them off, cleaned them, lubed them and greased the lugs a little. I think the cables not fully releasing from the leavers

when the cable is not attached to the brake arms use 1 hand to put a bit of tension on the cable and pull the lever. release the lever and does it feel like the cable pulls back ok? if its rough or jerky then the cable is jazzed

Unbolt the brakes from the caliper studs and see which hole the tension spring is in. Try putting the spring into a hole that makes the return action more positive.

Also worth checking your pads to see if they've formed a lip on their lower edge from overhanging the rim, this can cause them to hook under the rim, and pevent release. A coarse (bastard) file will take care of it.

this is what I had to do this morning, they work fine now, but the front are smoother and only in the middle hole.

think I'll replace the cables anyway.

(the pads seem ok btw)

thanks
