What's the STW opinion on what's best to wear when riding offroad through winter? Also, should they be waterproof or not? If waterproof, do you have to reproof them after every wash?

I can never get trousers long enough, so Gore baggies for me with tights under.

Trousers for me.
Means I can bedroom bivvy after the pub ride 8)
