i have an option to purchase a brand new unused 2009 Trek Fuel EX9 for just a whisker over £1k.

seems like a very good deal in every respect, but what are they like to ride as an 'all-day, all-round' prospect. I believe the 2009 version is 130mm rather than 120mm travel.

does anyone have one?

i'm curious also to know what they actually weigh?

cheers

I've got a 2008 EX8.
Great bikes, riding all day on them isn't a problem (I've done both English and Scottish coast-to-coasts on mine)
130mm travel up front, 120mm rear.
Mine weighs about 28lbs.

You won't regret having one 🙂

Trek Fuel Ex's have been 120mm rear travel since 2007, but often with 130mm forks.

Fine for all day all round, just do a search for reviews. I had a 2007 EX9.0 carbon that weighed 25lb and a mate has a 2010 EX8 that weighs 28.5lb, so I would imagine somewhere between these extremes. A bit vague, maybe someone with the same model will confirm.

Just over £1k sounds excellent, less than half the price of the current EX9? Which might have a boost valve Fox etc but is it really worth double?

I have a 2009 EX9 and it is very good indeed. At that price it is in my opinion good value, although of course doesn't have the 15mm taper fork, Double chamber shock etc.of the later bikes I have weighed mine which is standard apart from a Fizik gobi XM saddle and Thompson Elite seat post at 26.5lbs.

Running my 09 with revelation u-turns 120-150. My own build, not super light build but comes in about 29lbs. Probably feels 'right' at about 130 but pop it out to 150 for gnarlier stuff.

FWIW I bought the complete bike off here for £600 IIRC. Sold most parts but kept frame and few other bits. Since then seen frames on here for £250 - £300.

EDIT: £1k new sounds nae bad at all, misread that as used price.
