........specifically what chain guide are you using given the press fit bottom bracket and lack of ISCG mounts (mines a 2010 model).

Also, bash guard, really necessary?

Cheers if you can be bothererd.

I have a 2010 EX8. I'm running it 2x9 with a Hope bash guard, Suppose you don't have to fit one but I find it useful for rocky trails in the Peaks. I believe you can get a top guide to mount same as a front mech. Also look at the Bionicon C guide, but you might not need it if have a top guide & you shorten your chain.

I used a Radium inner chain guide, worked really well and looked cool too!

Wolfie - don't you ride a giant with a trek fork?! ๐Ÿ˜€

Don't run 1x9, but 2x10 with bionicon c guide and its a clever little thing with minimal noise too.

Raidium works well, but you need a bash guard to be the other side of the sandwich. Only for 32 tooth if memory serves, but that's plenty for most.

Other - more expensive - alternative would be bash guard and a seat tube mounted guide like Hope.

Got an XT triple at the moment and never come off the middle chain ring, so want to try and give the 1x9 a go. Will check out the other stuff.

Cheers chaps. ๐Ÿ™‚
