Hiya,
I've just entered..... May have bitten off more than I can chew, did my first MTB marathon last weekend and Tour of the Black Mountains 2 dayer on my road bike this weekend and my legs seem to be playing ball. (for now)
Is anyone doing the full 7 days and the Prologue Marathon? I've ticked the box but not sure if a 40k "warm up" is necessary..!
Also, is anyone getting a train down? I haven't sorted logistics yet, might be able to scrounge a lift but what's the deal with kit bags, if they only give it to you at registration, assuming we need to pack before we leave home, do we do then repack out of the back of a car and leave previous holdall behind?
Any other tips/advice/thoughts?

Thought the 7 days was more then enough, so giving the "warm up" a miss ๐
Where are you travelling from - someone might be heading past you and could give a lift...
Going to be my first TW, so looking for tips too...oh, and which bike (sorry). Choice of either Cotic Hemlock or Whyte 19C Team...
I'm taking my black bike ๐ (Giant trance x2) Not sure I'll manage it on my hardtail.
Be travelling from Swindon
Have you done much training?
Training...nothing specific, just lots of miles on the road bike. Need to spend more time on the mountain bike in the coming weeks though.
Still can't decide on my black bike, or white bike... ๐
You both will be totally fine on any bike.
Full suspension makes the days easiers, but hardtails seem to be sligtly faster on most special stages.
I used my Ibis Mojo two years ago and a Tall Boy last year but would be just as happy on a rigid 29er.
You do get given your kit bag when you arrive. But if you can bring a massive bag on the train you can always leave stuff in other racers cars at the start finish.
I'll be heading over on the Friday evening. But car will be rammed full so afraid I can't offer a lift. But if you keep posting on here I am sure you'll find a lift from someone. Swindon is afterall on route for anyone from the South East.
It's a great event.
7 day for me.
I'm not doing the prologue - pretty pointless imo if you're doing 70-80km days for the next week.
I'll be riding the 120mm full-sus - seeing as I've just bent my HT.
Training has been curtailed for the last week or so because of a bug, but I'm on a family holiday to Devon next week, so I've got some nice Dartmoor rides lined up. I've just been making sure that I'm riding regularly and doing some long rides as well.
I was just about to bump the thread about the Transwales that I started last month:

Where are you aiming to get off the train? I don't think I'll have space to give you a lift but someone might.
And to put it into perspective, one of the kids (16yrs old) I ride with did a north to south off road ride across Wales a few weeks ago. 270 miles in a four and a half days, riding a cheap 6sp Halfords special with barely any suspension.
Thanks for the input guys.
I've been doing lots of road biking, and am "fresh" from the Tour of the Black mountains sportives, been getting out on the ridgeway for 20 - 30 milers a couple of times after work + a MTB marathon just to see if I'd be capable of that mileage off road. I've been roped into SITS the week before too, just hope that doesn't wipte me out!
Trains - think one goes to Builth Road (I think that's near!)but it is about 4 odd hours. I can always ask papa nicely...
Hopefully meet some of you over the week as I don't know anyone else who's going!
