[Closed] Trainers - Rollers v Fixed Trainers

Looks like I'm going to have to invest in a home trainer to keep the miles up. I will be looking at spending less than £200, so if I went the roller route it would be a fairly basic model with no resistance unit. I'll be using my road bike on it. So, home trainers, please let have benefit of your experiences and the pro's and con's of each system. Ta

i like rollers best.
rollers is like a mid level spin on the bike and feels like riding as the bike mooves around in a fairly normal way.
turbos are more like doing weights and stuff hurts that usualy doesnt because the bike is held still.

but thats me.

I really do like my rollers.

In terms of resistance on my Tacx Eco Rollers it isn't adjustable, having said that there is still some resistance.

It varies, but I usually sit in top gear and spin for around 30 mins at give or take 30mph. Fastest I have been was 44mph, but at that speed if you fall off it hurts!
After the 30 mins if i'm going for a long session I alternate between top gear for 5 mins and then 2 from top for 5 mins and keep repeating this.

It does take some getting used to, but the faster you go the easier it is, a concept which I found hard on my first go.

Another point, they are very quick to use, no messing about just pop your bike on top and your away.

I managed to pick mine up for £60 off Ebay, the going rate however seems to be around £100 for a good set of Tacx rollers.

I got a set of Tacx Antares rollers and I love them. Dead easy to set up and get going, under 2 mins once you've learnt to ride them, which to be honest isn't that hard (15-20mins session). You can vary the work out intensity just by using the gears and cadance.

I couldn't be doing with the static turbo, it would remind me too much of a Cycling machine at the gym at least on the rollers you have to keep your witts about yourself.

Thanks guys, I was hoping rollers would come out well, as I like the idea of still riding the bike. I'll check out bikeradar.

There are also loads of tricks you can do, such as 1 foot, no hands, jump on and off etc... Just seem more flexible than a trainer!
