Hi all,
Living round Newport area and looking for some local trails. Been to Cwmcarn and the trail centres nearby but am looking for the local delicacies.

Wentwood is worth a look, especially now as it has been dry.
Loads. Which side of Newport? All my riding is between Newport and Caerphilly, easily accessible from the West of Newport. Also absolutely bags of cheeky riding around Cwmcarn too and normal trails too over the mountain behind Cwmbran.
Get an OS map and look for the green lines.
Wylie & Machen are both good. Wylie having much more riding since Machen was felled but trails are coming back.
Mm yes Machen and Wylie, if you like steep tech and lots of it. If not then, well, just keep riding there's plenty of trails. Less steep singletrack in Coed Cefn Pwll Du also known as the woods behind the Maenllwyd - there's more in there every time I go, it's nuts.
As per @molgrips comments, there are plenty of trails for you to access from Newport. I would also some nice new trails in Coed Mawr.

From the green stile at the top of the Twrch at Cwmcarn you can ride east along the ridge and then drop into Blaen Bran and Cwm Lickey. Or bear around a bit further to Hafodrynys area.
