Will be spending a few days with my sister in Keighley and hoping to get out for a couple of days. I've had a poke about on the OS map but I'm not sure about where's good, and don't have the time to become a connoisseur of the local singletrack. Am also not entirely sure about where is legal to ride, what with me being a spoiled highlander these days.
- Are there any classic rides in that area that I should do? I'll be riding with my wife so distance/height aren't an issue, but she's not a fan of relentless technicality. We're happy to drive a wee bit to get there.
- Any good guidebooks for that area?
Cheers
I'm interested in this too having recently moved nearby.
Lots of people on here were raving about Bingley last week.
There's also the Skipton/ Sharp Haw/ Hetton/ Rylstone/ Bolton Abbey/ Draughton/ Roman Road/ Skipton loop though Sharp Haw will be unbelievably boggy now.
The route of the Bronte mtb challenge in Sept looks good too:

I live in crosshills, there loads if you know where.
Bingley bash is a good one
Head to skipton/dales and there are loads from there. try this website

You could do this ride from Bingley,
Cycle along the Leeds Liverpool Canal from Keighley to the start, depending on what part of Keighley you're staying in.
There's a couple of guide books for the area, http://www.v-outdoor.co.uk/products/mountain-biking/west-yorkshire-mountain-biking-south-pennine-trails.php and http://www.amazon.co.uk/Mountain-Bike-Guide-West-Yorkshire/sim/0948153172/2
When are you visiting?
THanks for the replies!
Simon - not entirely sure when I'm visiting, but some time next week is most likely.
Boss Moor bit might be a bit minging at the moment, although I was surprised how OK-ish the climb onto Weets was yesterday. Was just thinking how much fun the descent from Weets Top towards Hetton would be - never ridden it in that direction.
Bingley Bash is OK, and very local to Keighley, but the standard version without the off-piste cheek is only so-so in my opinion, although a nice way to kill a couple of hours.
Depending on how much distance you want, there are a number of fuller-day rides in the south Dales which might be worth considering - not a huge amount more driving, but better in terms of surroundings and fun.
Martin, the above it the best threshfield moor circuit IMO. It's all good, done it a few times over the last few weeks. there is one very short bit on boss moor that is bog, but the rest is very good going.
How long/how much climbing is that Threshfield route roughly? I could plot it out of course but I'm lazy. ๐
HI Mr Nana. Do you perhaps have a GPX or similar of that route? Or even just know the distance/elevation of it?
Can't disagree with that. There are a lot worse ways to spend a half day.
it's a good route, takes me 2.5 hrs and I can do it all without granny. no gpx, I'm more of a map and compass man.
Cheers Nana, will just have t oconvince the wife that it's 'not too bad'. ๐
A good introduction to Dales riding. As already mentioned Boss Moor is likely to be wet and draggy but the rest is on good surfaces. Even the climbs are rather satisfying. The drop off the Weets offers a good long descent to the reservoir. The renovated parts maybe a bit soft after all this rain but a vast improvement over the monster bogs of old.
Ogden res is usually ok, link to an option here.http://www.mtbdales.com/dales_route_guides.php?catid=4
Renovated bits on the descent from Weets are in excellent nick, considering. Bit of 'squelch-tech' just before the reservoir, that's all.
Hi all, OrganicAdventure.co.uk are putting on a mountain bike challenge event at Ogden on The 5th August see www.OrganicAdventure.co.uk for more info. I have spent a the past few days up and around Ogden planing for the event and everywhere seemed reasonably dry with some awesome views (I am slower than most so do spend a lot of time admiring the views!)
any way hopefully see you there on the 5th
