Me and some friedns are heading to the Lakes for a weekend and were planning to do the Nan Bield route on the Saturday and could do with a route of 3 or 4 hours on the Sunday relatively close to Staveley. Grizedale could be an option but requires quite a bit of driving about. Does anybody have any route recommendations for around Staveley or a good spot midway between Staveley and a campsite?

Campsites near Staveley seem a bit thin on the ground so camping elsewhere might be required.

Please let me know what you'd do for a weekend where the Nan Bield / 3 passes route forms part of the itinerary.

Kentmere - Garburn - Troutbeck

or Kentmere - Longsleddale - back

Route map in Wheelbase with all this on.

Struggled with the same problem and now settled on a campsite over in Pooley Bridge (there's a choice of 2).

Used to be a great site in Troutbeck but it all seems to be static caravans now. Windermere Hostel is reasonably handy too but we've struggled to book in there in the past.

Going to do the Mosedale - Kentmere - back over High Street route so we can finish with a descent into Pooley Bridge.

Doesn't look a bad place to stay to do Nan Bield loop either - just means a few km on the road past Haweswater to the bottom of Gatesgarth descent / climb up to Nan Bield.

..... Pooley Bridge also gives you the option of some of the Ullswater trails for a shorter day out on the Sunday.
