Helpful file pic in case we've forgotten what a horse looks like.

"Threw his bike!!" Just wondering what the horse rider did to get that response. Surely that was at the top end of the escalation.

Maybe the horse spooked his bike and it threw itself?

I'd love to know what actually happened there - sounds very much like one half of a story, or else there's a total ****ing nutter on the loose

threw his bike at them or dropped it ready for a scrap?
did the rider fall while getting off, also for a scrap? (thrown from a horse is no laughing matter, but that's not said, even in this sensationalist-feeling report
hurled a brick, or chucked it in the general direction as they parted ways? (no report of it hitting, for example - wonder how close it really was)

It does read like only half of the story... But still it does sound like there's a little ball of pent up rage trundling around somewhere, perhaps the police should at least have a stern word.

Edit:

Do dobbinists wear gopro's, I am slightly wondering what evidence has been presented to prompt an assault charge, beyond the word of an equestrian who's fallen off his horsey...

Bike rider encounters Buckaroo and throws bike at horse as distraction measure?

I'm still staggered of the number of horseriders who take an animal on the road or trail that hasn't been conditioned to cope with bikes - I call out, ding my bell and ask to pass but still get a degree of animosity from some. My mate got kicked many years ago - wasn't funny.

A complaint by a victim is enough to record a crime of assault. With this being in Scotland, the police would need some sort of corroboration before they could charge anyone - GoPro footage, another witness, an admission by the suspect etc. - before they could charge him. That's if they are able to identify him of course.

...riding with aโ€˜poodle-likeโ€™ dog

I've got a slightly mad springer, which is basically a poodle with attitude.

in his 50s

...about my age....
dressed in a yellow high-viz cycling jacket...

Santa brought me one of those....

black lycra leggings

I have some of those - I think I've been fitted up!

At the risk of being strung up I am going to try to put a horse riders point of view. My wife and I both ride horses and I ride a bike (more than the horse) so I can see both sides. My wife is not rich or upper class, lets get that out of the way, she cleans houses to pay for her hobby. She rides very responsibly and politely and always wears lots of high vis, however she has had many incidents involving cyclists in our area. Although it is a rural area there is a shortage of bridleways so a lot of road work is required, I can assure you that she would sooner be off road but sadly in this day and age the tracks are disappearing fast so she has no option. We see a lot of large groups of cyclists travelling at speed here and more often than not they don't slow down at all! My wife's horse is very good with bikes but our youngster not so, we have tried to condition him to bikes but this can only be done on the road and after a bad experience with a 'peleton' who thought that they were on 'the tour' we must now sadly have to find him a new home where there are less roads. Not all horse people are rude so give them a chance, you could just give them the consideration that we cyclists expect from motorists.

Pfft, if the horse can't handle being on the road it shouldn't. It's too dangerous for everyone involved.

Do horses pay their road tax eh?

Your bike does'nt pay road tax either, and you missed my point about needing to be on the road to train a horse to be good in traffic! you don't learn to ride a bike in your lounge do you!

Isn't there a forum rule about deliberate trolling?

Well, half of my post was genuine i.e. if the horse can't handle being on the road then why is it. It's like those with dogs who don't like bikes but leave them off a lead.

The later part was merely a jest.

Three sides to every story and sounds like we're only getting one...

Of course there is, but at the moment we only have the horse riders, who feels strongly enough about the incident to have made a complaint.
If the bike rider felt the need to protect himself, come forward and give your side.

I'd like to jump to an ill informed conclusion regarding this story but need to know if the cyclist was a roadie or mtb'er.

I have nagging doubts about this story. Insteed, maybe there was an shouty haltercation from the horsey rider about the bike riders speed etc, an escalation, and one of those stupid incidents where bikes get thrown.
Wonder if the cyclist broke his tail light? In the mane.. these incidents do no one any favours.

It was a roadie. Hope they catch him soon and crush his bike as punishment.

Must be a pretty fit dog if it can keep up with a road bike

Two trains of thoughts on this, there will be some horseriderwomble on horsey track world spitting ****ing venom after reading by that lol

Secondly they let car owners do it. Maybe buying an apollo so all bikerists get to at least throw one bike at a car should be a write of passage

Lycra leggings is enough evidence for me to conclude the bike rider is at fault.

ownership of a horse is enough to make me conclude the accuser is nuts.
