Hello!
Is it frowned upon to ride at a Forestry Commission Trail Centre when it's wet/ raining?
We're supposed to be going to one later today but the forecast is mixed. I usually just ride on bridleways so don't know what the rules are and don't want to transgress any unwritten laws!
Must be joking
No
You need to take a sponge and squeegee so you can dry off the trail before you ride it. Breaks up the flow a bit, but thems the rules!
You must however lift your feet off the pedals and shout weeeeeeee!! As you go through puddles.
Good question, wanted to know the answer to that also. So we can ride but if we collect a lot of mud on the bike and clothes while on the trails, do have to put it back? How would we which bit of bike carried trail surface came from which section of trail.
Rubber rings and arm bands are absolutely essential for the novice trail centre user during periods of prolonged precipitation.. Please consult a FC ranger before progressing to snorkel and fins though.. If you see riders without the correct wet weather safety equipment, these are probably elite riders and you should defer to them as such.
Thanks!
Now what tyres do i need and should i take a jumper?! At least i know what flavour haribo to take based on the other thread.
Are you from 'murika ? 😉
trail centres are default option when its raining. less pushing through bog
on a more serious front - it would be good if you cleaned your bike - before going and before coming back

Trail centres being constructed rather than natural stand up to wet conditions better than local trails. They are also maintained to a certain degree. So they are a better choice than local trails for when it is wet -if it is damage to the trails that you are concerned about.
Llandega in the rain is lots of fun, its man made and lots of the rain just runs off the trail.
which trail centre are you going to?
Quite a funny troll actually.
😆
you'll be fine most of the trail centres are 3metres wide with a surface very similar to a pavement. Every so often you'll get an interesting feature then it'll be become a hardpacked-pavement again.

A guy that I ride with sometimes is from Texas and I honestly thought he was taking the mickey when he mentioned that you can't ride on wet trails over there.

+1
Did Dalby in the rain last week and wouldn't recommend it. Slow and draggy and not much fun. Most others are great though.
My local trail centre (QECP) isn't surfaced so if you ride there when it is wet it will be an interesting challenge (hmm, wet roots - lovely). You will also cause some wear and tear to the trail, and if that makes you feel guilty then come do some volunteer trailbuilding. But either way just go and have some fun in the mud and water.

You must ride through all puddles not around them and thus causing trail creep and trail erosion 😉
You will already be wet so riding around puddles will make no difference
Slow and draggy and not much fun
Isn't that just Dalby, irrespective of the weather?

😆 very good!
I think it's been raining on 80% of my visits to trail centres in Wales! 😉
Funny you should ask that. At Glentress a couple of weeks ago it was very very wet, the car park was full but the trails were empty. Turns out the cafe is very popular when it's wet (although I'm still of the opinion that if that blonde girl didn't work there we'd probably all be more inclined to spend more time on the trails)

yet you still struggle to set up the forks to suit?
You must return the mud if you live outside wales 🙂

But did you wear a jumper?
I shall continue to refuse to go to another trail centre when it's wet unless there is considerably more investment by the Forestry Commission.
Me and my 8 mates stopped at every corner of the last trail we were on for a half hour long chat and an energy gel and not one of those corners had a shelter, in fact they were quite exposed. Needless to say we got soaked !!!
It's mandatory to ride them else ramblers would take over and a herd of rambler boots does far more damage.
Well, you‘ll all be riveted to hear that we had a great day, the sun came out and it wasn't too wet. I,did feel a bit overbiked on my yamaha yz250. It is a full suspension so it dulled the trails a bit too much. Will stick to my afternoon run down rangers path Snowdon I think.
genius!
