I'm moving for work this friday to Maidstone. I'm looking for some tyres to commute on that are suitable for tow paths and the such like, just to stick on my XC bike to make it a bit faster. I nearly bought some continental Ultra Gator Skins but i can't help think these won't be that good on stuff like unsurfaced paths and tow paths etc that i will be using on my commute, is there anything a bit more half slick/half knobbly i could look at that?

We've had a lot of luck with Schwalbe Hurricanes(kevlar belted), sold loads to commuters suffering endless punctures, only one of which has come back punctured, a tiny percentage considering the hundreds we've fitted.Well worth a try.

I'll second the Travel Contacts, superb tyre, been over the Himalayas on these and not one puncture, also used for commuting along chalk and flint and broken glass seafronts and still no punctures ๐Ÿ™‚

I like Town & Country by Continental. Like a scaled-down motorbike tyre that lets you lean on tarmac but also works on hardpack. Not really good in mud or on slimey stuff-covered boarded sections.

Vewry low rolling resistance, low punctureness too; good on street, tolerable on canal track, surprisingly better than expected on hard-pack trail. Sketchy in mud!
