Hi, I bought a s/h 05 Passat with a towbar already fitted but when i fitted my new bike rack today for the first time the light board didn't work.
I've checked the board is ok on a friends car and i've checked the cars fuses. I've never had a car with a towbar before so any advice on common faults or anything else to check?

You need to follow the (towbar)wiring loom from the female socket on the car, back to where it meets the cars wiring loom,On a passat its probably a socket mounted just behind the rear os w,arch,you may have to remove some trim to get to it,but it may be hard wired around the inside rear light clusters.(if its none vw spec).
By your post it sounds like its either been disconnected or has come loose.
