Three STWers go on a loop of the Western Isles and Wester Ross.
Feel free to recommend eateries and suggestions to make the most of what makes bike touring what it is.
Look forward to more. The formtting on the web page isn't the most modern

Think of it as pre SIS, clunky and curmudgeonly but reliable and roadside serviceable
A week before I head to some Scottish Isles. Don't use up all of the sunshine!
Well probably get your wind and rain.
But we'll finish all the beer ๐
take your nice cap Al ๐
Good stuff.

Now with some pics. Ill add those Al and Miles took when they send me them
Brilliant. Going to re-read that all with a map over a glass of wine later this evening
Enjoyed that. Reminded me of the tour we did (well, planned - due to illness we ended up as "support vehicle" for two tandems and two solos). We sailed from Oban to Barra then went via Tarbert, down Skye and across Ardnamurchan and Mull back to the car. We did use B&Bs though, not tents
Marvellous! I'm currently in Lochranza having cycled around Arran and will be getting the ferry to Claonaig in the morning. Haven't decided whether to hop on straight over to Islay or head to South Kintyre yet.

Wot no cynic-al fusion cuisine mention
Wot a fusion of 'Rich' and 'Tea'? ๐
You missed out the smoked mackerel (my pannier now indelibly stained...)
That was a wonderful read Peter, thanks!
That looked properly ace! Looks like you all had a great time, and:
Going to re-read that all with a map over a [s]glass of wine[/s] mug of tea later this evening
Thanks for sharing, and taking the time to write/photograph about it all*, this is the kind of stuff that helps keep the fires burning and inspires people to do stuff of their own ๐
* I always take loads of pics on trips, but rarely get round to organising or sharing them so they just stay in my personal stash, I should get better at writing stuff up...
Great read that, thanks. Rode up through the Outer Hebredes on fatbikes, with a couple of mates, a few years ago and rode the mainland roads you did last year. Going up the OH and back dwon is a nice way to do it though. Its such a stunning part of the world as well. Loving the combustables obession applied to pete stacks as well ๐
The people are great on the islands as well. I remember breaking down when leaving Barra in my van once. The Cal-Mac ferry man quickly identified a flat battery, so threw me the key to his Vectra to help myself to a jump start and yelled to me to leave it with the jacket spud van as he lept onto the departing ferry. ๐
I really enjoyed that, really entertaining writing Peter.
The Sunday observance thing is a feature of Lewis, Harris and North Uist; the catholic end of the island chain couldn't care less! ๐
loved that, thanks, great pics, an area I love and I was a 135 driver when younger. cheers
Excellent read, thanks for sharing.
