[Closed] Torq Gel pouches - tear-off retainer

Has anyone, ever, managed to tear a Torq gel pack open and leave the top still attached to the pouch with the retainer piece?

Every single time the top just tears straight off. Is it hamfistedness? Woeful technique, or just (and you can guess this is where my thoughts lie) a really stupid design?

Why not offset the nozzle/port to one side, so that the tear starts on that side and the top is retained with a more substantial piece of plastic/foil?

1stWP I know.

Is it a first world problem though? Maybe if gel pouches generally were better designed then so many people wouldn't leave them on the ground. Or more than likely the two aren't linked ๐Ÿ™

I've managed a couple successfully, but it's definitely a bit of a lottery, esp when your hands and the gel are soaked in sweat.
And when you do pull it off and leave the tab on, there's a nanometric sized hole that you then have to try and such the contents out though.
What irritates me is that a bit more design thought in the package design would have probably solved the problem without any extra manufacturing costs.

Yes, it's easy, but then you have to put the whole lot in your mouth and suck, which is less satisfying as your mouth is fully of a spiky bit of packaging rather than.. well.. gloopy medicinal stuff.

The system designed by Clif works better but is patented. At least Torq have managed to come up with an option. FWIW, I have no problem getting it to work.

Not just you Stoner. Jersey pockets with small prickly bits of wrapper washed every time I use the damn things.

SIS don't suffer this problem. Top can stay attached as contents are emptied. I choose them partly for this reason.

how would you improve them?

I'd make the wrapper out of something biodegradable, and easy to get into, and as a bonus, I'd make the contents taste nice.

Seems to work fine most of the time here. Doesn't really bother me if it doesn't, both bits get shoved in a jersey pocket anyway.

Mule wrappers are compostable (spl?) and biodegradable iirc.

Seems a good idea.

I'd really, really like to see a gel wrapper that automatically killed anyone throwing it away by the road/trail side. Kill them to death.

Bananas would be ok if they didn't get crushed so easily.
