So the wife has finally said she is prepared to move out to Toronto. I'm no stranger to the city having been out there nearly 20 times as my dad lived there but never really ridden there. I know there are many ravines but is there any good riding away from the Metro area.

I know there is a few people on here who've moved out from the uk, I'd appreciate any info.

Would I need a fat bike for the winter?

Starting with the easiest bit, as I was thinking about that this morning: yes, you probably would need a fat bike, based on this winter. Until about 2 weeks ago there was still around a foot of snow laying about, and although it's still chilly (-7 on Thursday), it's dry now.

As for the rest, there is definitely riding, and some groups who go. Unfortunately I moved out at the fag end of last summer, and by the time I'd got settled in and my bike had turned up it was a bit late in the year (and I was too lazy) to get out properly. But places like Hardwood Hills seem to be popular, for example, and pretty technical.

Plus you're only a few hours' flight from California, Colorado, other places in Canada.
Do it!

I have been out there a few times but not done an awful lot of riding. Hardwood Hills isn't anything special IMHO but a good few hours riding non the less. It's not somewhere i'd like to rely on for my biking fix.

If I was going out there again I'd be checking out Blue Mountain http://www.bluemountain.ca/mtnbike.htm. The video on the front page should whet your appetite
