Managed to whack the calliper on my Hope Mono Mini’s this weekend which resulted in me loosing some fluid from the brakes. Now I have found and fixed where the fluid was leaking from, but as I have lost some fluid the lever now has to travel a long way before the brakes kick in.
The question I have is can I now just top the fluid up at the reservoir or do they need a full bleed to get them functioning properly again? If the latter (as I fear) how hard is this to do for someone who is pretty mechanically competent but has never played with hydraulic brakes before?
Top it up & see how it goes
If you need to bleed, it's fairly simple
The latest What Moutain Bike has a guide on bleeding brakes, and its a hope setup they demonstrate on.
take the resevoir cap off and push it in from the bottom with a syringe or squeeze bottle IMO.
easy peasy, and no mess.
you will save yourself a whole heap of badaids trouble if you remove the wheel and the pads, however you do it.
if they are in the next room you will struggle to contaminate them.
