Don simon & junkyard, I trust I'll be seeing you both in there when it opens... ?
I doubt it.
Mine was said mainly in jest I will take your comment in a similar light.
DUUUUHHHH IT'S REALLY SIMPLE
Bike Forum for stuff about bikes
Chat Forum for stuff not about bikes
Mine was said entirely in jest, and as for don simon, he's just a fool I'm afraid.
The fact that this forum is busy enough to even debate whether or not some topics should even be included on it is testament to it's health IMO.
I read topic titles, if it's something that interests me, or something I think I might be able to help out on, I'll click on it. If not, I don't. Do all you non roadies that are complaining about the number of road bike threads have "must look at the car crash" syndrome or something? I can pass a thread title by and if it doesn't interest me I couldn't care less, I'll read the ones that do!
not enough roadie for me - there are no other decent roadie forums imo. Although with most roadies being in their mid 40's they probably dont know that the web is much use away from porn.
you mean I can use the web to find porn - what am I wasting my time here for?
What are people thoughts?(oh, Im not a roadie hater, I own one and regulary ride it but this isn't the place for it)
But surely, if there are regular roadie threads, this would suggest that it is popular, thereby disproving your point that this isn't the place for it?
Just saying, like
It says "bike" forum not MTB forum, last time i looked any bicycle was classed as a bike, lets leave it as it is
More roadie stuff required, I'm looking forward to the day the last MTB'er is forced out of this place.
Judging by the what road/CX bike threads a lot of people are moving to road bikes. I wonder how many MTB riders have moved over from road riding compared to the other way round?

what i hear from shops is that road is where the market is growing. MTB is last decades fashion.

Don't be afraid Lodders, there's always room to throw in a quick insult here. ๐

Got to believe that, the home page of Keswick Mountain Bikes says it all..

I don't own a road bike.
I have no interest in road riding.
I don't see anything wrong with people that have an interest talking about it on here though.
What's the problem? Are some of you worried that it might ruin your radsik image.
Scarily stw is just about my favourite website in the whole world, dont change it.
Need a new dishwasher but not sure what to get? Ask stw. Lots of great folk on here, don't try and divide us.

I like the fact that when you click on Biking it's about bikes and Chat and it's general chat.
Sites like BikeRadar have so many sub categories that it's difficult to get an answer to a very specific question (it may have to be posted into Road, Workshop or something like that) on here it's posted, answered, job done.
As others have said, don't read topics that don't appeal to you.
Only downside to this approach for me is how quickly topics can be 5 pages down with so much new stuff appearing all the time.
It's easy enough to avoid the roadie threads where they get all evangelical about what must be worn and what mustn't and stuff. I did accidentally read that one yesterday though where someone had the effrontery to overtake someone else wearing jeans or something, but generally can dodge them. I found the recent threads on Camelbaks very odd for the number of posters getting het up about what others dare to carry around. Very odd.
1freezingpenguin - that picture is terrifying. Ruined my day!
OMG LOLZ It's so true... this place, the OP is sooo right. There's way too much road bike content. Infact there's way too biking content full stop.
It's why I don't come here anymore
Ya's need to leave this forum alone man.. It's a totally brilliant place to hang out in.
Inclusion not exclusion.
What kind of lame tool gets so wound up about the fact that some enjoy a different form of cycling that he needs to post up about it?
I am embarrassed for you.
I think it's something to be actively encouraged whenever possible..
hopefully leading to:
more roadies.. less MTBers.. quieter trails (if it's even possible for the trails to be quieter around here..)
Last time I checked the nearest sort of equivalent roadie forum, there was a throughput of about 3 posts per day. And most of those were forum member challenges chat stuff in the off-topic/misc section.
For sub-forums, forget bikeradar... try a German forum. If they have many more sub-forums they'd have 1 sub-forum per thread! PITA having galleries and "show us your" in about 3 main places too, plus about 20 brand specific ones too.
Technically I'm ex-roadie crossover to MTB, but that was in about 1996. It's only a few roadie thread here anyway. More CX afaict.
No
Next question
In qualification of my answer, I ride road bikes and mountain bikes. I like having one forum that covers my cycling.
The roady threads on here are definitely an MTB perspective on roadying though - very kit oriented and totally clueless on pro racing.
If you dont like them, dont click, it's easy.
I don't have a problem with it. If you don't want to read the road threads, don't click on it. As for road bikes being the big growth area, well that's been clear for a while, but I think it'll probably change in a few years and then there will be lots of threads along the lines of "I've been riding on the road for a few years, but I just dusted off the mtb and went for a ride, and it's great! It's actually fun, and there's no cars!" Just a thought.
Leave this forum as it is, I quite like climbing, but one glance at UKC's forum always sends me back here.

That's just STW. Even with MTBing, most users don't seem too bothered about the fact Josh Bryceland came 2nd last week or that Danny Hart is having a great season so far. Ditto for XC racing, but I'm totally clueless on that ๐
I like road bikes. All bikes are great, surely?

Would this be a good time to mention my Brompton ๐

Hold on Chipps, are you suggesting you guys run this forum to be all inclusive, non elitist, and for people who "just like riding bikes"?
Cos I got the impression that I had to agree with everything the nay Sayers said, otherwise I would be chastised and scorn would be heaped upon me!

Just to help prove stilltortoise's point. I've never heard of either of those two people. Doubt I could name more than 6 off-road pros across all disciplines. When it comes to riding I like both road and off-road equally, but as far as spectating/following goes it's just road riding that keeps me interested.
Someone up there mentioned "other" cycling forums..
If you really want to get all angsty about roadies take a peek at CyclingNews dot com and stick your head in The Clinic..
I think you'll find that there are factions in our lovely sport/passtime that can and do stab each other with venom filled verbal typed syringes all on thier own.. Ewe..
but where would "road bike for mtb race training topics go" id we had a separate forum.
bikes is bikes
bikebouy - I think I knew before you were reborn (or is it born again?)
is your previous alter-ego 'fin'?
Love that pic of EBH et al - he was awesomely hard as yesterday
I notice that most that moan about the roadie threads don't really start or contribute much to the other threads. If you're not interested don't open the thread, pretty simple really.
I really like the balance on here at the moment and don't think it should change. I also think that by having threads on roadie and cx stuff encourages folk to try other forms of cyclimg which can only be a good thing.for example, there is no way I would have considered a cx bike without having read the threads on here about them and then asking about.
This discussion came up years ago iirc, and the decision was to leave it as is.
More roadie stuff required, I'm looking forward to the day the last MTB'er is forced out of this place.
seems about right
can I take this opportunity to post a picture of my new road bike?
You may. Very nice. Is it a Cannondale?

You went mental when you chose that paint/carpet combo didnt you? ๐

SLAM IT DOWN - stem should not have that number of spacers ideally it should rest on the headset ...seriously what were you thinking of ?What shade of beige went with beige ๐
