This has just popped up as an ad on my Facebook page. https://www.mecequipment.shop/

Seems too good to be true, surely?

Yup
#1 website registered yesterday - https://www.whois.com/whois/mecequipment.shop
#2 no address on contact
#3 Read 'About Us' and let me know how convincing they sound... "At Online Store we love every passion and interest on Earth because it is a reference to your UNIQUENESS.And to spread exactly that…is our core vision: To help you Express Yourself. To support you Online Store."

Are we done??? 😉

Come on, did you really have to ask?

My favourite bit is

SECTION 20 – CONTACT INFORMATION

Questions about the Terms of Service should be sent to us

Good luck with that.

With new tld extensions coming online it can be worth asking whether an established brand would really use “that domain”. Haven’t looked at .shop but there may be quite a high number of dodgy registrations.

In a similar vain I use an Italian domain for some internal stuff because it ends in .it but I would be suspicious of a U.K. entity using .it for a public facing platform (we use org.uk as that’s what we are).

And as I tell my kids if it’s on Facebook it’s probably a scam/ fraud/ lie. (What’s Facebook dad? Oh it’s a cesspit for old people.)
