..............day of British summer time ! That means that its now time for the single speeds to be used by Steve ,John and myself through out the winter. As usual we ended summer time by riding the Princetown loop and finishing in the pub for lunch. It was a bit blowy to start with but the sun did come out and warm us. Boy was it wet. Comments ?

Because of all the mess of winter wrecks your running gear.

Single speed -less cleaning/wear.

I'm still using my gears as I grumble when cleaning my bike ๐Ÿ˜‰

Nice action in dodgy weather pic!

Bloody singlespeeding, my legs ache. Was nice not to have to bother with cleaning the bike after though.

Dartmoor was showing it's contrary nature today, bleak and freezing one minute, beautiful under the sunshine the next. Glad we got out.

(Knottie: no chance of me doing my photo's yet as B is 'defragging' her computer whatever that means)

See your point! (I have a pal who ss in summer too till his knees ache and jumps on the geared bike).

Maybe it's part of the natural hibernation process!

Do people really put certain bikes away for the winter?

I believe some people do, however in a cycling circle of up to 20 odd folk I don't know anyone that actually does.

However, I can see the benefits of not having to replace bearings every year (especially owning 2 consecutive Spesh's), but singlespeeds are retarded to me.

I find that pretty sad as the past few summers were wetter than the winters.

My Epic goes into semi-hibernation but still gets brought out occasionally. Mostly stick to the hardtails.

Looks like a nice rufty tufty day out. Stoke MTB Falling Leaves 50 miler tomorrow and your pics are a real inspiration as I was feeling a bit maybe I won't go cos I've got a cold coming on.

Nice Roberts DB! Good to see an original Crud rear guard. IMHO much better than all the seat post mounted variants.

Nope. I just ride ss more in the winter. Geared bike is getting an airing tomorrow.

singlespeeds are retarded to me

'retard': to delay or slow down the progress, speed, or development of something. - you may have a point there. especially the speed bit.

I've got a ****ered knee, ss has made it stronger and not ****ered it further, maybe my standing up style of riding doesn't put as much pressure on the knee joint when it's in the bent position..

Hey knottie - that's the Dartmoor I remember! Atmospheric ๐Ÿ™„

From memory, the Plume of Feathers served massive portions of good food ๐Ÿ™‚

In fact, some of those trails look familiar. Must get back there!

good thing you picked a nice sheltered spot on the edge of the moor. no-one in their right mind would drive all the way to [s]roysten vasey[/s] princetown to ride all the exposed bits in this weather ๐Ÿ˜›
