It's an unorthodox idea I know, but how about avoiding related threads if you are trying to avoid finding out the results of races.
Because like the thread about Cav being angry was started first thing this morning talking about him and attitude etc then some nobber goes and posts on it the result why feel the need! people will be in up roar if others posted football,F1 or others sports up here and it's simple to write "spoiler"
Why is posting Cav's result in a Cav thread the actions of a nobber? I would say that opening a thread about Cav whilst trying to avoid the result of a stage that he had a great chance of winning was more nobberish.
While we're on the subject, if Raoul Moat is killed or captured, can we make sure please that this doesn't get casually slipped into an existing thread. It needs to go in a new thread, marked "Steroid freak - SPOILER". Some of us are hoping to watch news of his capture on the BBC news at 10pm, and do not want this to be spoiled by News24 junkies in the meantime.
Thanks for the pi** take BigDummy just a TAD different don't you think! idiot ....
The point was the thread about Cav was started YESTERDAY PRIOR TO TODAY'S STAGE BUT AFTER YESTERDAY'S so no chance of spoilers .. come on common sense for those that enjoy it! People make the effort in other sports so why not in cycling?
My point is that it is unrealistic, unfair and really rather selfish to ask people to avoid putting Cav's results in a thread about Cav.
mm really .... I'll beg to differ on this one and not read the threads any more!
Get over it Munqe
It's me you're calling a nobber. If you want to avoid a TDF result why read a TDF based thread - duh!!
It's had the result on the radio, TV, internet, everywhere - in future go lock yourself in a dark room until the highlights show.

Bingo.
There's so many ways to find thinsg out these days (often accidentally) that the only way to control how you find the result of something is to either (a) watch it live or (b) make the effort yourself to isolate yourself from every possible source of information.
Well said Higgo

no it isn't, neither is some idiot spouting the result in the middle of simon mayo's radio show at 6.30pm after i'd avoided the news bulletins in the same programme
agree with Higgo. avoiding just ordinary media like tv would be a good idea for starters cos tdf isn't that much of a puller anyway, but it could happen! but to go on a cycling forum, and then go on a thread about tdf/cav, and to expect no spoilers, and then moan, is a bit conceited. so the world of information stops for u? FAIL!
Yup avoided TV/radio etc go onto a thread (that I've already mentioned this about 4 times) that was started after the END of one days TdF and START of another suggests suggests you aren't going to find out the results!
It was TdF thread FFS. Only an idiot would open a TdF thread when they were trying to avoid a TdF result. Are you an idiot?
I think you'd better start avoiding cycling internet forums from 4pm onwards. The likelihood of someone posting the result somewhere "they shouldn't" is really rather high.
Maybe do some work or something?
Oh yeah, I managed not to read the thread yesterday, then stupidly looked at the local sport on Ceefax when I got home looking to see if there was any Newcastle Rugby news. Obviously forgetting that the Isle of Man is 'local' to me in Durham, so the headline read 'Cav thanks his team for stage win'.... Didn't really spoil my enjoyment of a great win when I watched it on the videobox, cos it was an exciting finish.
I hadn't realised this thread was going to be an arguement about another thread and STW posting etiquette.
I feel my day has been ruined now.
More seriously - If you start a post with the INTENTION of giving a result that people might not want to know then SPOILER is a good idea.
If you start a thread discussing stuff and over time it evolves and someone posts the results as part of the dicsussion then that is life.

Dammit! Now no one can read this thread without finding out the result of that stage!
I think there's merit to both arguments
In this particular case, a thread about cavendish might best be avoided after about 3pm if you don't want to see any cavendish-related news. However, there's a broader tendency for people to just spout, often even in their titles, something like "Yessss, cavendish wins stage". Understandably, that's what really pisses people off (every year)
yes, it'd be easy to just not come on stw to avoid the result but youre effectively excluding people from a cycling forum on the grounds that they have an interest in cycling
I don't much care for the sprints but I'll be a bit narked if someone comes out with "Contador wraps the tour up on (some mountain or other)" later on
MAybe those on both sides could try accomodating each other, just a bit ?
its a cycling forum - END OF! a couple of thoughtless nobbers deliberately want to ruin peoples evenings
not so funny when i redirect your work browser to meatspin is it?
grow up and play properly or **** off back to where you came from.
there is no two sides to this at all, its done every year, call it forum etiquette.
but some pathetic attention whore always has to be different and then argue they are in the right.
Clubber I have let it go and that Micheal Winner picture made me ROTFWL love it! But don't worry as of 1500 I will be avoiding internet/radio/TV/ matrix signs on the motorway/people driving around in their big cars with "Cav won today" ..... ๐
