SO there I was, googling for ring lube and chains, and I found that putoline stuff that teej uses

put the road bike chain in it - bugger me, it's silent and it's already lasted 30 miles without reappliation !! ๐Ÿ˜‰

great fun with a camping stove on the lounge carpet, too

(I'm gonna have to sort out the hubs now though, the noise is unbearable)

I'd damn well hope so! I apply lube about every 200 miles on the road bike, at most!

Student method:

๐Ÿ™‚ Buy candles [waxy ones, not too crumbly]
๐Ÿ™‚ Have candlelit dinner [optional]
๐Ÿ™‚ Remove wicks/metal bits
๐Ÿ™‚ Gently melt in old bean can
๐Ÿ™‚ Place whole chain in
๐Ÿ™‚ Shake about a bit over the sink
๐Ÿ™‚ Remove chain and place on cardboard to cool
๐Ÿ™ Clean sink
๐Ÿ™‚ Ride and repeat when it squeaks ๐Ÿ™‚

Now that you've reached the mid-ride coffee stop. Let's hope they've got some tea lights to top the chain up ๐Ÿ™‚

Now that you've reached the mid-ride coffee stop
that was 2 rides, with a sleep in-between

My experience of chain wax was: 30 miles of silence, then it's all worn off. So the ride home or second local blat round the woods sounded like a Dutch commuter whose chain is made mostly from rust.

Back to proper lube.

This place was rubbish with TJ

I've been using this stuff too, it's ace- amazing how well it works in mud, I used it for a couple of innerleithen enduro races and the UKGE event particularily left the gears just a block of mud, but still it worked. Only downside is that it's a lot of work to clear off, and it does still need redone fairly often in winter.

Going to try it on a bike if summer ever happens- originally I planned to go back to epic ride, but this feels like it might last forever in the dry.

Also it does feel quite a lot like I'm going to burn the house down.

But what did the Tandemjeremy ever do for us? Just excellent employment advice, useful bike advice, running trail repair sessions, organising rides sometimes, what a ****, glad he's banned ๐Ÿ˜‰ Because there's been no bad threads since then obviously and the people who used to troll him definitely don't do it to anyone else.

andy - if you keft would anyone notice?
Not having a dig but look how often he gets a mention

there was no malice in him even if he was foolish and those who goaded him deserved the ban IMHO.He was often bulled and we kicked out the victim and left [some of]the bullies here and this shames us all.

Back to Chain Wax. Works best with single speed or hub gears.

I'm afraid 30 miles until a re-lube required just isn't enough. I'll stick to oil.

As for TJ - a man with a view - nowt wrong with that is there?

Wasn't a joke for me though. That's about as far as I managed before properly needing to relube. Was nice and clean though.
