In the absence of any other answers.

Throw some clip-on tri bars on a road bike, move the seat forward and wear a ****t hat... most of a TT bikes gains will be made ??

what are you planning on doing with it racing or just giving it a go? A friend joined Chester Tri Club (I think it was called that) and they were helpful for newbies/ You might be better off trying to borrow on from someone.

Yep, corporate games. There's a TT and whilst it's not a huge deal there will be people on TT bike I'm sure, and it would be a shame not to be able to compete properly.

Underslung clip ons instead of the cheapo top mounts

Those would be a good bet , youll likely go faster on a bike that your used to and fits you as oppose to trying to fold your self into a flat position and screw up your breathing. - alot off top tt riders actually run higher front ends than you think.

Extended evans test ride? They have a carbon BMC in the window of the Hanover St store.

What trail rat says. Takes a while to adapt to the position on a proper TT bike. Better off on what you got with some clip ons (but get some practice in if you've not used them before.)

I have used them before, quite a few times. I would just like to try a real TT bike out once that's all.

Likely to be quite a difference on longer TTs, and more importantly even by your admission there is a difference, which matters in a race.

As above, unless you are planning to hire a TT bike for a week or two, you're not going to have time to set it up correctly and get used to the position. You will be faster with some cheap clip ons for your existing bike and a borrowed aero helmet. Another low cost improvement is a cheapo riser stem, turned upside down, if you want to get your bars lower:

Improvement would be subjective.

Most amateur tt riders have their position way too low in the false belief that this makes them faster.
