That your meant to bend the edges up to hold the bolts in position.
Does anyone actually use them?
I do. Why wouldn't you?

weight saving ๐
i don't bother- they're an arse to bend up ime.
I use them too....very clever design and reusable.
You do need the triangular torx bolts too.
Lightest secure steel system.....I know titanium, aluminium and nylon bolts weigh less, but carry increasing risk!

They seem an unnecessary faff, I have never had a rotor bolt come loose or had my wheels/brakes explode without them.

This. Never bother.
What about the locking wire on the calliper bolts!?
It will probably only happen to you once.

+1

No don't use that either, but if I am reusing a bolt I put a fresh dab of threadlock on it.
Remember, Shimano sell the same stuff all over the planet...and that includes the USA.
Belt and braces.
PaulD
Even so, do all the other manufacturers (that sell in the USA) have an other 'extra' features such as the bendy backplate washers or locking wire?
Not to say shimano isn't onto something, but how come nobody else does the same?
Or have they been busy patenting?
Threadlock + torque wrench here
Once had some 3mm headed (not T25) hope rotor bolts fall out once, though hadn't tightended them up properly in a new hub, and no threadlock or torque wrench
I always use them and my bolts have never came off so(what's your point caller). ๐
